I’ve officially been back to work for about a week and a half now. Every summer I feel like I am ready to go back. I’m full of exciting new lesson plan ideas. My optimism is at an all time high, and then we sit in staff development. Change is not my favorite thing. I need someone who can metaphorically hold my hand through all the changes. In the long run, I know it is for the good of the students. But, in the short run, I am pulling out my hair and wishing for the way things used to be.
If I come across as short-tempered these next few weeks. I am. Unfortunately, for everyone who is not my new student, the brunt of my frustration will land on you. It is not the students’ fault I don’t like change. They get the excited teacher they need to start off the school year. It is you, my peers, my colleagues, my friends that will see the frustrated woman desperately in need of someone to hold their hand and tell them it will all be alright in the end.
Every year at this same time, the same thoughts run through my head. You’d think after over 10 years, I’d be ready for the changes that arrive in August. Especially since those very same changes were mentioned in June. Yet every single year, they take my by surprise and make me wonder why I still do this. Then the students enter my room and the reasons come flooding back. It is for them: the students, our future. They are the reason why I let my routines come undone, never to be put back the way they were before.
So, as you send your kids off to their new teacher this year take a moment and thank them for the sacrifices they make in their own lives to help out your students and society as a whole. A little kindness goes a long way when you are barely staying afloat.
Thank you for reading a story from #BehindTheBlogger Hop. Every 2 weeks a group of bloggers is given a writing prompt. These prompts are very open-ended, so our bloggers can write about whatever they desire. The main rule is that their blog post directly relates to the topic of that week. The point of this hop is for our readers to get to know us on a personal level.
Please hop along and read all of the blog posts in this weeks hop. Just click the links below. If you want real and raw emotion, then you will find it here. After you read each post, please comment and share. We want to get to know you too!
